Falcons 2 - Phoenix - KSF
GAME REPORT - MOTION A VS KSF
It was our last meetup with KSF and the final match of the Motion A "cup" season. Eager to bounce back from the last gut-wrenching 1:7 defeat and a skirmish on the ice, we geared up to finish strong.
We had a full squad of our own Motion A boys with Elliot helping out as our netminder. KSF brought a mix of Motion players and a few Division 2 talent, along with a tall Auston Matthews doppelgänger. His lip lettuce was outperformed by our own homeboy Jon's handlebar.
The atmosphere in the locker room crackled with energy, fueled by words of encouragement and thunderous "Aww yeah's." We were ready for the game.
First Period
Falcons goal: Rolands intercepted a pass behind the KSF net and quickly passed to Mr. Simony in the slot, and he didn't miss. 1:0
KSF goal: Their top line applied pressure, and #8 fired a shot through traffic, knotting the score at 1:1.
Falcons goal: A KSF blunder led to a prime opportunity for Lui in front of their net, and he made no mistake. 2:1
Second Period
KSF goal: We played a bit passively in our end, allowing #8 to score from the crease. 2:2
Falcons goal: Janek delivered a sweet pass to Lisan al Gaib, aka Tom, who went one-on-one against the goalie and scored. 3:2
Falcons goal: Another slick feed from Janek, and Tom unleashed a cannon from the slot. 4:2
Falcons goal: Janek took a shot and picked up his rebound after the goalie failed to secure the puck. 5:2
#8 deked our defense, but Elliot made a jaw-dropping diving save.
KSF goal: Passive play in our zone allowed #27 to take a shot, pick up his rebound, bringing the score to 5:3.
Third Period
Another pep talk in the locker room to wake us up. We knew KSF would go full throttle, and we just needed to stick to our game.
Two shots off the crossbar saved us from conceding goals.
KSF strikes again: Once again, #8 maneuvered in our zone, took a shot on goal, Elliot made a save, but the puck bounced into the net. 5:4
In a nail-biting final stretch, our net faced relentless pressure.
With 40 seconds left, Elliot called a timeout and gave a pep talk on how to finish the game. With a face-off at our end, #65 took a shot, while Jon took one for the team with a stick to the face. Janek ensured that the faceoff was in their end. Their last attempt was stopped by the buzzer, sealing our victory.
What a nice way to finish the season with a 6-5 record. Lots of work for the next season. Up next, a Friendly game with Malmö Tortugas.
