HHK Senior mixed outdoor - Slagelse

Apart from a small bit of wind and the temperature being ever so slightly low, the sunny conditions in Hørning were near-perfect as we faced off against a young, fit and talented Slagelse team, in our first game of the year, and our first game of the second half of the outdoor season.

As expected, Slagelse started with energy and tried to force early mistakes in our defense.

But we held firm in defense and had ‘hero’ tracking back from our midfield and attack, and so we managed to soak up their pressure and some early penalty corners.

However one shot in a penalty corner got through, and Slagelse were 1-0 up after the first two quarters.

Looking at our own game, we had some great attacking play and breaks in the first half, resulting in a couple of very close opportunities.

In that light, and although being down 0-1, it was still very encouraging and optimistic at half time, and Chris’ team talk at the break reflected this. It sent us out ready again, fired up but still focused, for the second half.

After the restart, Slagelse continued to come at us in defense, but this left them vulnerable at the back, and after a few well structured Hørning counter attacks, Chris found himself at the top of the D, smashing it past their keeper to level the game at 1-1.

The game continued in this fashion, but Slagelse were adding more and more pressure all the time, and we had to really fight to clear our D, and stave off a number of penalty corners against us.

We ourselves again had some good breaks, but were unable to find the net after these and also after a couple of Hørning penalty corners.

So, in the end, either team could have taken a second goal at various monuments through-out the 3rd, 4th and 5th quarters (yes, you heard me correct!). But the game finally finished, with probably a fair 1-1 tie.

A thorough team performance from Hørning, working extremely hard for each other all over the park. Special mention to our players that were carrying injuries but still contributed a massive effort: Tim in goal, Muddi and Hanne to name but a few. Our Captain, Chris, managed to pull out an amazing performance, even though he had food poisoning the night before and had not managed to eat anything all morning and afternoon.

Huge thanks to Miguel and Clem for running the sideline and admining the match, and of course to our brave umpires, Luke, Jan and Lars (in which the latter had also played in the first half). Thank you very much!!! You guys rock and we couldn’t have had the match without you :)
